I've been buying at this store for almost 36 years. The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable. However, checkout experience has been deteriorating for quite a while now and last night really made me wonder why I continue to spend my hard-earned money there. No greeting by the clerk, after announcing the amount (which was the only sound she made during the transaction) my receipt was silently pushed across the counter. No thank you, no have a nice night, nothing. And yes, I did say hello when I walked up. I don't get that at Stewart's in Clinton, which, btw, is very close to my house. Smart business practice dictates greeting a customer and most importantly, saying THANK YOU. You need work Saybrook Hardware!!!

It is always a pleasure to shop at the Saybrook Hardware on Main Street - it's the Ace Experience, without a doubt. Family owned with many familiar faces, the associates go far above and beyond the call of duty. The staff is friendly, well versed with the products AND location of everything in the store. Not in stock? Saybrook Hardware is more than happy to special order for you. So incredibly focused on the customer experience. This is the # 1 difference and the reason why I shop local and avoids the Big Box Stores...
